Stunning locations
Budir Black Church
The church is a historic site located within a national park. Right next door is the highly rated Hotel Budir offering excellent accommodations on site. The location is highly accessible with a parking lot right in front of the church offering beautiful views of the nearby mountains and ocean.
Skogafoss Waterfall
Skogafoss is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iceland. The wide falls are located right off the ring road and are very accessible via a short walking path and if you are not afraid to get your feet a little wet you can stand just downstream for some lovely waterfall images. The site is a huge tourist attraction and will be very busy during the height of tourist season (mid June - mid September). Accommodation is available on site at the Hotel Skogafoss.
Black Sand Beach
Some of the nicest and most accessible black sand beaches in Iceland are in Vik, an adorable small town on the east coast. The dark sand with the green cliffs and ocean offer a variety of backgrounds as well as possible puffin sightings along the cliffs! Multiple hotels, airbnbs, and restaurants are located nearby.

When’s the best time for eloping in Iceland?
Glad you asked! The answer totally depends on what you want your images to look like. The most popular time is summer due to the lush greens and nicer temperatures, but that also runs the risk of tourists being crowded in the locations you might choose. Going in spring will likely result in cloudy, sometimes rainy weather which can offer some very dramatic images but might be very cold. Fall seems to be the best of sunny but cooler weather with less tourists, but may have snowstorms in the north. Winter is cold and very windy but can offer some amazing images and experiences, including intense auroras.
What should we wear or pack?
Iceland is a land of extremes and unpredictability. Dressing in layers is recommended even in summer and rain can sometimes happen with little to no notice. The most recommended items are hiking shoes, sweaters, and rain gear.
Do we need a permit for photography?
You do not need a permit for photography at these popular locations. Some private tours may request notice ahead of time, but permits are not required.
